Bhuwan Thapa Chand( born 14 June, 1949) is widely recognized as Nepal’s first female film actress and a pioneering figure in the country’s cinema history. She began performing at a very young age and entered Nepali filmmaking through Aama (1964), Nepal’s first feature film, where she played the leading female role. Over the decades, Chand has contributed not only as an actress but also to film production, becoming an enduring presence in Nepali theatre and cinema. Her long-standing contribution to the development, preservation, and promotion of Nepali film and culture earned her the Film Development Board’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Her career represents an important chapter in the history of Nepali cinema and has helped pave the way for generations of Nepali actresses.
